Lost Through the Looking Glass, Parts 1 2 Review. Share. In the gripping season finale the survivors of flight 8. By Chris Carabott We knew that Lost had been building to what would be a great season finale but what executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof finally delivered was beyond even our wildest expectations. The two hour finale entitled Through the Looking Glass brings together several key storylines and develops them in the most unexpected ways with the characters that weve grown to love over the past three years finally making contact with the outside world. This is nothing short of a masterpiece of storytelling with a brilliantly paced narrative and a cliffhanger that will keep people talking until next year. What we find so great about this story is that everyone plays an important role in how events come together. Jin, Sayid and Bernard are assigned with stopping the Others who are trying to invade the beach. If their efforts fail, the group heading towards the tower would be in danger. Charlie and Desmond must turn off the signal in the underwater Dharma station or else the group at the radio tower will not be able to send a message for help. The three groups are interdependent with one another so that if one group falters the whole plan is in jeopardy and this creates a large amount of suspense and drama throughout the story as Jacks plan is continuously on the edge of disaster. Unlike earlier this season, the survivors are now working as a single unit with everybody sharing information and working towards a single goal rescue. This is a stark contrast to the fringe groups that we saw just a few episodes ago who would consistently voice their distrust for one another and continually keep secrets. When we last left Charlie he found himself the prisoner of two beautiful women working in the Looking Glass Dharma station. This week, he is bound, tortured and interrogated for information, which he rather freely gives up. This and the ease with which Bernard gives up information to the Others are our only real complaint about the episode. Its understandable that Bernard, fearing death, would divulge information to the Others but Charlie knew he was going to die anyways so he should have just kept his mouth shut and waited for destiny to play itself out. Otherwise, most of the events that take place in the Looking Glass station were exciting, including Desmond coming to the rescue and Charlies last moments when destiny finally catches up to him. As we said last week, a few weeks ago we would have been pleased with the prospect of Charlie dying but now were sad to see him go. At least he went out a hero and gave Desmond one final warning about Naomi before his demise. Now that the flight 8. Others armor and Bens weaknesses as a leader are becoming more and more prevalent. In the past few episodes, weve learned that Ben has used deception and subterfuge to not only manipulate his enemies but control his followers as well. Ever since Locke found himself traveling with the Others, the group has begun to question Bens authority and the results of that doubt manifest themselves in this episode. If you take out the general, the whole army will fall apart and that seems to be the case here. We already knew that Juliet had turned on him and that Richard had been questioning his orders but it appears that even Mikhail doesnt trust Ben. This dissension amongst the ranks gives the survivors the advantage they need to reach the radio tower and signal for help. In The Man Behind the Curtain, Ben left Locke for dead in a ditch filled with the corpses of the Dharma initiative. It was safe to assume that this wouldnt be the last we would see of Locke and we were right. Unfortunately, Locke appeared to be at the end of his rope and searching for a way out, as he was about to do the unthinkable until Walt appeared before him. Walts appearance is important not only because he has been off the island for twenty plus days but he had also aged considerably since the last time we saw him. Yes, we realize that Malcolm David Kelley has aged but its still significant that Locke sees him about a year or two older. Is he a manifestation of the black smokeWe probably wont find out for sometime but it is a key moment in the episode that will most likely find itself lost amongst the talk about the episodes final five minutes or who was in the coffin. The next time we see Locke he is back to his old badass self, throwing a knife into the back of Naomi and urging Jack at gunpoint not to call for help. Locke appearing behind a falling Naomi is one of those moments when you cant help but let out an audible Yes One thing we love about the islands healing powers is that it guarantees characters like Locke and Mikhail will have an extended lifespan. As events play out and Jacks plan to get off the island looks more and more within reach, Ben makes one final attempt to stop them. This leads to the most tantalizing and gripping moment of the episode. Bens revelation that Naomi was someone other than who she claims was an exciting prospect, but at this point anything that Ben utters becomes lost amongst his pack of lies while his conviction that this was the truth appeared to be genuine, Jack couldnt trust him. This leads to a final standoff between these two respective leaders with the lives of Sayid, Jin and Bernard hanging in the balance. This is one of the more nerve racking moments of the series because we know Jack wont give in at this point, not after coming so close to freedom. This is an incredible test of character and Jack infuriated with himself and what Ben has made him do will be forever changed, regardless of the fact that it was a bluff. Sometimes, its not the outcome of the decision, but the decision itself that defines us. This may even be the catalyst for the Jack we see in those flash forwards. Finally, its time to discuss the event that everyone will be talking about until the show returns in February of next year. Watch Echoes Dailymotion. Last week we mentioned that it was great to see the Lost writers playing around with the flashback formula but the concept of a flash forward has completely taken us by surprise. This is a fantastic look at what happens to Jack after hes left the island and what has become of his life. During the episode, Ben asks Jack why he is so determined to get back to a life that is filled with such misery. The flash forwards prove Bens point and in the final moments as we learn when we are, Jack divulges to Kate that Ben was right. Its a fascinating development that not only has implications on the characters and the story but on the structure and the way the narrative is told from this point on. Well probably have to wait sometime before we are given any clues as to how the series will progress from this point on but we doubt this will be that last flash forward the series has to offer. As for who was in the coffin, some of you might be inclined to stare at stills of the newspaper clipping that Jack had, but well leave that speculation for another day.
